Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks an Interpreter Services professional to provide patient interpretation across hospital sites, including on-site and tele-interpretation, with on-call responsibilities in the evenings and weekends. You will translate complex medical information and support scheduling, billing, and patient education.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in oral and written in both target and source languages.
• Excellent communication and extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of healthcare policies, interpreter standards of practice and ethics.
• Consecutive, simultaneous and sight interpreting.
• Medical translation.
• Ability to maintain data collection and formal documentation systems.
• Enthusiastic with strong sense of teamwork.
• Working towards the National Certification Exam.

Responsibilities

• Interprets for patients with limited English proficiency in interactions with care providers and hospital personnel.
• Translates complex medical and personal information, including test results and treatment plans; provides sight translations of documents.
• Assists patients in scheduling appointments and resolving billing issues.
• Identifies and addresses cultural differences impacting communication.
• Supports community outreach events and represents Interpreter Services.
• Provides on-call intake coverage and schedules interpreter requests across hospital sites.
• Trains staff on using interpreting devices and coordinates on-site or telephone interpretation as needed.
• Prepares and maintains documentation for interpreter requests and translations.
• Provides education on cross-cultural communication and works with staff to improve service delivery.
• Maintains daily activity records and participates in quality improvement activities.
