Job description

Job Description

Bilingual Legal Assistant

Compensation: Hourly
Employment type: Contract to hire

We are a fast-growing, boutique law firm focused on immigration, criminal, and personal injury. We are hiring a Bilingual Paralegal/Legal Assistant in Atlanta, Georgia to handle a variety of immigration cases, including family-based, humanitarian, and consular processing.

When our clients call us for help, they’re often going through an emotionally difficult period. We are looking for a rock star to handle a high case volume with experience in all facets of immigration law. If you have never handled immigration cases, no need to apply. If you have not completed at minimum 50 immigration applications, no need to apply. If you have never gone to the USCIS website, no need to apply. If you are not familiar with EOIR, no need to apply.

Our Bilingual Paralegal/Legal Assistant will be able to hit the ground running with tailored training for the position and produce a high volume of quality work for multiple immigration clients. We provide our clients with the ultimate customer service experience and will require attention to detail, responsiveness with clients, and an understanding of all immigration forms. We are looking for someone knowledgeable about the many facets of immigration law.

Previous work experience as a paralegal/legal assistant is highly recommended but not mandatory. If you are looking for a short-term job, this is not the position for you. We are looking for someone dedicated to helping people and passionate about their career in the legal field, seeking stability; if this is you, then the position is perfect for you.

You must be an optimistic, positive person. Our office does not do well with toxic people or negative attitudes. You will not fit in here if you think you may fit into categories of negative people.

We prefer people who are not afraid of computers or learning new things that will make their jobs easier. You must be able to handle working with several different databases of information. You must work with urgency and treat each new case with care. If you aren’t 100% confident managing data and people, you are not the right person for this job. You must be competent and proficient in the use of Google Docs, Gmail, and Adobe, at a minimum. Familiarity with legal case management software and Slack is a plus.

We are fully invested in policies and procedures and systems. We believe in a team approach, where you can ask for help when you need it without fear of being judged. However, at times, you will also need to know how to figure things out on your own and creatively solve problems. You must be able to think on your feet and make smart decisions. If you can’t think on your feet, please do not apply.

Other requirements include the following:

  • Knowledge on preparing a variety of immigration applications, including but not limited to: I-130, I-485, I-765, I-821D, I-821, I-864, DS-260, I-601, I-601A, I-918, I-192, I-90, G-639, and other applications as necessary.
  • Knowledge of responding to requests for evidence from USCIS.
  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures, machines, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of correct English and Spanish language usage, spelling, punctuation, and legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of the organization and composition of business letters, minutes, reports, and numerical and tabular materials.
  • Ability to determine work priorities.
  • Ability to multitask independently and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Ability to execute work assignments.
  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail and timing.
  • Knowledge of techniques for receiving calls, making appointments, and giving information and explaining instructions, directions, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of case management software and Google Calendar.
  • Skilled typing ability and knowledge of personal computers, hardware, software, and related applications and systems.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to apply instructions and/or guidelines as appropriate in the performance of management support activities.
  • Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations occurring as a result of workloads and/or deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use diplomacy and discretion in giving out information and in referring and directing callers and visitors.
  • Ability to transcribe documents from written, oral, or computer-generated formats.
  • Most importantly, you need to have compassion when dealing with our clients. You will be the primary contact upon the hiring of the firm regarding an individual's case. You will need to remain responsive at all times to client questions and concerns and provide updates as needed. Weekly status reports on cases will be provided to office management, and the ability to keep track of work and time will be essential to be successful in this position. Your ability to listen to what you are being told and ask follow-up questions is very important. If you cannot listen, understand, evaluate, and work with a high volume of cases, this is not the job for you.

To put it simply, we want you to do good work and provide our clients top-notch service to help solve their legal problems. We want people who want to make a positive difference in our little piece of the world.

Think you have what it takes to be our next bilingual legal assistant? We provide training, and for the right person, this will be a highly rewarding position. We offer health insurance, performance bonuses, and even 401k with an employer match. If this sounds like a good fit for you, you will need to complete a two-step process to be considered. If both steps are not completed, you will not get a response from our hiring team.

  • HOW TO APPLY:

To apply for the position at our Firm:

Apply on Zip Recruiter and send a message with the following:

Subject Line: Type your last name in all caps followed by one adjective that describes you. If this is not done correctly, you will not get a response.

In the body of the e-mail, answer the following questions:
