Job summary

All Seniors Foundation in Los Angeles is seeking a Bilingual Japanese Patient Advocate to connect Japanese-speaking seniors with free care services across LA communities. You will assess needs, translate with staff and clients, and help enroll in Medi-Cal, IHSS and other programs.

This role emphasizes empathy, cultural understanding, and advocacy, with paid training, comprehensive benefits, and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English.
  • Experience with elderly populations, healthcare systems, or social services.
  • Cultural competency with Japanese-American senior communities, including Nisei/Issei history.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and ability to explain complex topics clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments with Japanese-speaking seniors and families
  • Translate between English-speaking staff and Japanese-speaking clients during medical and benefits conversations
  • Help clients enroll in Medi-Cal, IHSS, hospice, Medicare Savings Programs, and other benefits
  • Accompany clients to medical appointments and benefits offices as interpreter and advocate
  • Document interactions in our case-management system and follow up on open issues
  • Build trust with Japanese-American communities through partnerships with JANM, Keiro, churches, and senior housing

Role Overview

As Bilingual Japanese Patient Advocate, you will serve as the trusted point of contact for Japanese-speaking older adults including the aging Nisei generation and Issei elders across Little Tokyo, Gardena, Torrance, and LA’s Japanese-American communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial assessments with Japanese-speaking seniors and families
  • Translate between English-speaking staff and Japanese-speaking clients during medical and benefits conversations
  • Help clients enroll in Medi-Cal, IHSS, hospice, Medicare Savings Programs, and other benefits
