Job summary

Southern Oregon Head Start is seeking a friendly and capable Head Start Teacher Assistant to support teachers and nurture children's development in a classroom setting. The TA assists with lesson implementation, observation recording, and safety while helping prepare meals and maintain a clean learning environment.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a CDA credential or progress toward one within two years.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English to follow procedures and complete documentation.
• Basic computer knowledge and clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with children individually and in groups to support education and safety.
• Assist classroom teacher with curriculum development and activities.
• Lead class in the teacher's absence and record child observations.
• Provide childcare for meetings and assist with center operations and safety.
• Support transportation duties as bus monitor and ensure child safety in transit.
• Maintain classroom cleanliness and general upkeep of equipment and materials.
• Communicate with parents, staff, and co-workers in a positive, supportive manner.
