Job summary

Primary Health Care, Inc. (PHC) is seeking a Patient Access Representative I to greet patients, complete registrations, schedule appointments, and help with insurance verification and financial screening at PHC medical and dental clinics.

This role typically works at PHC University Dental Clinic in Des Moines, Tue–Fri 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, with occasional coverage at Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown clinics. Bilingual Spanish/English is required.

Qualifications

• 1 year in healthcare, human services, or social services environment; or 2 years in a customer service role.
• Bilingual Spanish/English written and verbal.
• Excellent customer service and commitment to service excellence.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Good problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Takes initiative and dependable.
• Team oriented with collaboration ability.
• Strong listening and reading skills; follow instructions.
• Basic math and ability to count money.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet-based applications.
• Detail oriented with high accuracy.
• Strong prioritization and interpersonal skills.
• Professional demeanor under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive customer experience for internal and external customers; greet visitors and manage reception.
• Accurately document messages and relay to the right person.
• Schedule medical and dental appointments and ensure accurate registration.
• Load insurance into registration and verify eligibility in Real Time Eligibility (RTE).
• Assist with sliding fee program applications and refer to Patient Service Specialists as needed.
• Process patient payments and manage cash box.
