Job summary

The Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, invites applications from Spanish/English interpreters certified by the State of California for a full-time permanent position to perform interpreting and translating duties for the court.

The role includes courtroom interpretation in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation modes, and requires knowledge of legal terminology, ethics, and court procedures; and involves daily calendar management and documentation.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid California Certified Court Interpreter certificate issued by the Judicial Council.
• One year of full-time interpreter-translator experience in a courtroom or business setting.
• Knowledge of legal terminology and court functions.
• Proficiency in English and Spanish grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Interpreter ethics, standards and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation modes for court proceedings and related departments.
• Provide sight translations of court documents and forms.
• Interpret for judges, attorneys, court staff, and other court personnel.
• Recognize and communicate any factors that may affect interpretation quality.
• Research and understand legal terminology and court processes.
