Job summary

Center for Family Life in Sunset Park is seeking a Childcare Specialist to support a grant-funded project connecting Brooklyn families with childcare assistance. You will screen eligibility, enroll providers and families, and maintain accurate records to ensure continued eligibility.

The role requires bilingual English/Spanish communication, strong data entry skills, and knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape. Office-based, with some travel and occasional evening hours to meet family needs.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Bilingual: English/Spanish required.
• Excellent telephone and email etiquette.
• Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and Excel.
• Experience in community engagement or other forms of direct service.
• Knowledge of NYC childcare landscape or willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated cultural competence with immigrant communities.
• Friendly, highly dependable, organized and flexible.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need of childcare assistance.
• Screen families for eligibility utilizing a standardized tool and complete applications.
• Enroll childcare providers in program and assist them to enroll children.
• Build knowledge/expertise of the NYC childcare landscape in Brooklyn to assist families to connect with childcare as needed.
• Determine appropriate childcare type and setting to meet family’s eligibility and needs.
• Conduct yearly recertifications for continuing eligibility and enrollment.
• Utilize excellent communication skills to engage families and childcare providers, trouble-shoot, and assist them with successfully using assistance.
• Conduct visits to childcare providers.
• Provide information or referral for childcare for families who are not deemed eligible for assistance through the project.
• Refer all families to CFLSP Benefits Access & Enrollment team, and to other CFLSP programs and resources as needed.
• Collaborate with program director and fiscal department to track and distribute funds.
• Track childcare enrollment and recertification.
• Maintain project data.
• Create and maintain case records for each family and provider.
• Attend meetings with project team, funder and stakeholders.
• Participate in advocacy efforts as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.
