Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health in Columbus is seeking a part-time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. You will counsel mothers, maintain confidentiality, and connect clients with community resources, with a flexible schedule including some after-hours coverage.

Ideal candidates are bilingual (English & Spanish), have breastfed a baby for at least 6 months, and are current or former WIC participants. Transportation is required.

Qualifications

• Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
• Has breastfed a child for at least 6 months.
• Is a current or former WIC participant.
• Good communication skills are required.
• Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities

• Counsels and provides breastfeeding information and support to WIC mothers and addresses common concerns.
• Receives a caseload of WIC participants and makes routine contacts per policy.
• Available at clinic visits and by phone during regular hours, weekends, holidays, and outside 8am-5pm shifts.
• Maintains accurate records and keeps participant information confidential.
• Refer WIC mothers to community resources as needed.
