Job summary

Washington County Public Health Division is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support prenatal and postpartum WIC parents with breastfeeding information and encouragement, in person or virtually across Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard. You will counsel participants and refer to staff for situations outside the peer counselor’s scope.

This role requires passing Spanish fluency assessments, a high school diploma, and the ability to coordinate with the IBCLC.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; meet WIC policy requirements.
• Must pass written and oral Spanish fluency assessments.
• Background check after offer is required.
• Experience in public services or peer support may count toward salary placement.

Responsibilities

• Provide parent-to-parent breastfeeding support prenatally and postpartum.
• Counsel participants virtually and face-to-face and refer to IBCLC or staff.
• Offer guidance and connect to community resources beyond scope of peer role.
• Support participants outside typical clinic hours and travel to multiple sites.
