Job summary

City of New York's Department of Transportation seeks a Transportation Specialist I, Bicycle Sign & Wayfinding Coordinator. You will support the planning, development, and management of bike regulatory signage and the Bicycle Wayfinding Program.

The role requires field investigations, data management, and collaboration across city units to ensure signage complies with federal, state, and city guidelines, with a focus on safety and accessibility for all road users.

Qualifications

• A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related fields.
• A baccalaureate degree in engineering with 1 year of full-time satisfactory experience in roadway transportation and traffic studies.
• A baccalaureate degree with 2 years of experience as described above.
• An associate degree or 60 semester credits with four years of experience as described above.
• A four-year high school diploma and six years of experience as described above.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and document existing conditions and issues.
• Review bicycle signage network plans and siting of citywide bike signage.
• Collaborate with city units and interagency partners; ensure signage meets guidelines.
• Review and approve work orders; support safety protocols and data management.

Education

Master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related fields

Bachelor's degree in engineering + 1 year relevant experience

Bachelor's degree + 2 years relevant experience

Associate degree or 60 semester credits + 4 years relevant experience

High school diploma + 6 years relevant experience
