Position Summary

The Benefits Analyst is responsible for:

  1. Design, evaluation, implementation, and ongoing management of STERIS’s Leave of Absence (LOA) policies and disability plans.
  2. Serving as the primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators to resolve escalated claim, pay, enrollment issues.
  3. Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws like FMLA and ADA, reviewing medical documentation, advising managers on leave policies, and maintaining accurate leave records.

Ideal candidates will possess strong analytical, systems/technical skills, be team-oriented, and exhibit initiative while executing and delivering results.

Location & Schedule

This position is based in our Mentor, OH Corporate office with an option for a hybrid schedule after the introductory onboarding/training period.

What You'll Do as a Benefits Analyst
  • Serve as subject matter expert on leave administration, ensuring systems and processes comply with requirements.
  • Oversee Leave Management programs and policies, ensuring compliance with laws regarding FMLA, disability, and benefit administration.
  • Facilitate leave and accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Lead reporting and analytics for leave cases and provide reports as needed.
  • Administer other company time-off programs in accordance with policies and laws.
  • Draft and recommend revisions to leave policies for compliance.
  • Create training programs for managers and employees on leave laws and policies.
  • Oversee the return-to-work process for employees on extended leave.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee medical documentation.
  • Conduct audits to identify compliance issues and address them.
  • Provide policy and process recommendations to leadership.
  • Lead new program/vendor implementations and process improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 5 years of benefits work experience in a consultative role.
  • Experience with Disability and Leave Administration.
  • Understanding of laws such as HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, ACA, DOL, IRS regulations.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with SAP and Benefitfocus systems.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (preferred).
Additional Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Strong analysis, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience with HRIS systems.
  • Discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound judgment and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
  • Strong written, oral, and math skills.

Pay range: $59,500 - $83,212.50. Eligible for bonuses. Pay based on experience, certifications, and other factors.
