Job summary

Baker McKenzie is seeking a Benefits Administrator to support the Baker Benefits Plan for US-based attorneys and staff in Chicago.

You will administer health & welfare and retirement benefits, manage enrollment, coordinate with vendors, and assist with audits and compliance reporting while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Degree preferred in related field
  • Extensive experience in Benefits Administration
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel reporting
  • Knowledge of Health and Welfare plans and voluntary programs
  • HRIS experience preferred
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret complex information and data from multiple sources
  • Able to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing conditions
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information tactfully

Responsibilities

  • Participate in administration of the Baker Benefits Plan and benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), cash balance)
  • Provide leave of absence support
  • Maintain vendor data feeds and coordinate data transfers
  • Assist with annual enrollment communications
  • Support external auditors for benefits audits
  • Assist with ACA reporting and compliance requests
  • Process new hires and life changes; maintain benefit files
  • Audit eligibility changes and notify vendors promptly

Job description

The Global Benefits team manages health & welfare and retirement benefits for US-based attorneys and professional staff and provides select benefits for attorneys based outside the US. The Benefits Administrator is responsible to provide support to participants in the Baker Benefits Plan.

Main responsibilities:

  • Participate in the administration of the Baker Benefits Plan. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability, defined contribution (401(k)) plan, defined benefit (cash balance) plan etc
  • Provide administrative support for leave of absence programs, as needed
  • Maintain vendor file feeds and coordinate with vendors on requirements and changes to all data transfers
  • Participate in the management of the annual enrollment process and develop communications with stakeholders
  • Provide support to external auditors for the annual benefit plans audit (insurance and retirement)
  • Work with benefit plan partners to verify employee data when requested and for all annual compliance requests including but not limited to ACA Reporting
  • Process new hires and mid-year life changes and electronically maintain employee benefit files
  • Audit eligibility changes/files to ensure timely notification to vendors

Skills and experience:

  • An associate's or bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Strong experience in Benefits Administration
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint and comfortable managing Excel-generated reports
  • Knowledgeable of all Health and Welfare plans and voluntary programs
  • HRIS experience is preferred
  • Effective presentation and communication skills; able to deliver informative and engaging presentations
  • Understands and applies complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives
  • Able to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and work assignments
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information with tact and discretion
