Job summary

The City of Williamsburg Human Services Department seeks a qualified candidate for the Benefit Programs Specialist role. You will perform eligibility tasks for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, VIEW, and Energy Assistance, including intakes, reviews, and referrals to other services.

Responsibilities include cross-training and coordinating across multiple benefit programs, with preference for bilingual Spanish speakers and VDSS systems experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of related work experience required.
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License or obtain within 90 days.
• Acceptable criminal history, CPS and DMV background checks, drug screen required.
• Preferred: bilingual Spanish; experience with VDSS electronic case management system and search tools.

Job Opportunities

The City of Williamsburg Human Services Department is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Benefit Programs Specialist. This position is responsible for performing a range of eligibility functions that pertain to Virginia Department of Social Services Benefit Programs, including intakes, ongoing reviews, and referrals to other services.

Benefit Programs include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP], Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families [TANF], VIEW, and Energy Assistance. Other programs, as assigned, may include Long-term Care, Auxiliary Grants [AG], Child Care, and Fraud Prevention. All positions are cross-trained, as needed, and workers may assume coordinating responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; and
• One (1) year of related work experience

Special Qualifications:

• Valid Virginia Driver’s License or obtain within 90 days
• Acceptable Criminal history, CPS and DMV background checks, drug screen

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior work experience in financial assistance programs sufficient to determine/redetermine eligibility for benefits
• Experience with VDSS electronic case management system and search tools
• Bilingual (Spanish), skills with a competency to translate benefit program details
