Job summary

Elk Hill Farm, Inc. seeks a Behavioral Aide to support students with emotional and behavioral needs in Staunton, VA. This full-time role focuses on coaching, modeling, and providing day-long guidance to promote positive change during the school day.

The position requires courage, empathy, and strong communication; you’ll work with teachers and administrators to implement behavior plans, manage crises, and maintain a safe learning environment across classrooms and common spaces.

Qualifications

• Temperament to work with children and families with special needs.
• Cultural sensitivity to diverse populations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal & external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Teach, model and coach students in behavior-emotional strategies.
• Manage escalation and crisis situations per Behavior Management Program.
• Monitor hallway activity and supervise students.
• Assist in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and Dean of Students on behavior.
• Work with Dean of Students/Head of School to determine consequences.
• Provide classroom assistance when needed.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, staff and placement agency personnel.
• Facilitate recreational activities.
• Complete data collection and reporting on student behavior within deadlines.
• Ensure monthly student reports are professionally written and submitted on time.
• Complete required trainings including CPR/First Aid, Behavior Management and naloxone prep as assigned.
• Support total program quality with staff.
• Promote an atmosphere of openness and understanding among students and staff.
