Job summary

Prairie St. John's in Fargo, ND is seeking a Full-Time HUC to support a 132-bed behavioral health facility. The role includes organizing unit activities, directing patient flow, chart management, and coordinating admissions and communications with staff.

The position offers 40 hours per week with full benefits and a Monday–Friday schedule. Responsibilities span chart prep, patient records, supply inventories, and collaboration with RNs/LPNs.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children, adolescents or adults in a health care setting or group setting such as day care, school, group homes, or residential facilities.

Responsibilities

• Organizes assigned activities in order to complete them in a timely fashion. Assists in organizing the unit and nurses’ stations. Helps direct patient flow, retrieves charts from the physician’s offices, tracks patient lab work and other documents; and monitors the admission lab turnaround.
• Demonstrates the ability to prioritize responsibilities. Must be able to work on all units as necessary.
• Initiates chart forms for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; assembles admission charts.
• Maintains patients’ charts in appropriate organizational and sequential order.
• Inventories unit stock ensuring availability of proper supplies.
• Files reports and test results in a timely manner. Prints out nursing notes.
• Maintains a supply of admission chart packs.
• Assists in maintaining the patient bed board.
• Calls for and obtains previous medical records for patients upon admission.
• Communicates patient requests to appropriate staff member in a timely manner.
• Schedules patients’ appointments and pre-registers patients for existing appointments.
• Assists staff with answering the phone.
• Assists with duties of the Mental Health Tech as necessary.
• Assists with Emergency Code Response.
• Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention when needed with patients.
• Observes and monitors the patients’ status and safety; delivers care according to standards consistent with multidisciplinary treatment and discharge plan, care directives, and expected outcomes.
• Assists RN and LPNs with daily set up and delineation of duties upon the approval of the RN.
• Contacts outpatient providers to notify of patient admission.
• Contacts parents for children/adolescents to notify of admission.
