Job summary

SUN Behavioral Health Houston is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Technician to support psychiatric patients under RN direction. You will provide direct and indirect care, monitor mental status, perform vital signs, and document in the EHR, contributing to a safe, therapeutic environment.

The role emphasizes patient safety, de-escalation techniques, 15-minute observation rounds, and collaboration with nurses, therapists, and physicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR and CPI de-escalation certification required.
• CNA certification preferred; some college acceptable.
• One year of behavioral health experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs and intake/output, with RN notification of changes.
• Continuously observe patients' behavior and mental status; report changes.
• Escort patients for activities, meals, visits, and tests.
• Assist with safety checks and de-escalation; participate in CPI per policy.
• Record documentation on Nursing Assessment Form and/or EHR.
• Participate in treatment team meetings; communicate with care team.
• Conduct 15-minute observation rounds and document findings.
• Assist with orientation of new staff and therapeutic groups.
• Support patients needing additional medical-related care.
