About the Role:

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting the mental health and well-being of patients within a specialized healthcare setting. This position involves direct patient care, assisting with clinical assessments, and implementing individualized treatment plans under the supervision of licensed professionals. The technician is responsible for managing crisis situations effectively, ensuring patient safety, and facilitating therapeutic interventions tailored to individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED). Accurate clinical documentation and maintaining comprehensive discharge plans are essential to ensure continuity of care and compliance with healthcare standards. Ultimately, this role contributes to improving patient outcomes by providing compassionate, skilled support in a structured behavioral health environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Certification or training in behavioral health, crisis intervention, or related area.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, preferably in a clinical or residential setting.
  • Ability to maintain detailed clinical documentation and follow established protocols.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience specifically with serious emotional disturbances (SED) populations.
  • Formal training or certification in crisis management and clinical assessments.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare documentation software.
  • Additional education or certification in mental health or behavioral health fields.
  • Experience working in women’s health or specialized behavioral health facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care and support to patients with mental health needs, including those with serious emotional disturbances (SED).
  • Assist in conducting clinical assessments and participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment and discharge plans.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring compliance and continuity of care, and are used daily to track patient progress and treatment outcomes. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are critical for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, helping to de-escalate potential risks and maintain a safe environment. Clinical assessments and discharge planning skills enable the technician to contribute valuable insights during patient evaluations and ensure smooth transitions in care. Mental health knowledge supports compassionate and informed patient care, allowing the technician to understand and address complex emotional and behavioral needs. Together, these skills facilitate collaboration with healthcare teams and enhance the overall quality of patient support and treatment delivery.
