Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS through American Heart Association required.
• National CMA/CCMA/RMA certification by one of the listed bodies.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Core Skills as defined for the scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records and clinical data.
• Demonstrate competency in therapeutic and diagnostic interventions including vital signs, mini-treatments, prevention services, previsit planning, postvisit follow up, medication refills per protocol.
• Contribute to development and implementation of patient plan of care with the interdisciplinary team; identify barriers to active participation and plan care accordingly.
• Provide patient/family education through assessment of health literacy and learning needs, then teach back and evaluate effectiveness.
• Encourage patient engagement through motivational interviewing and self-management support protocols.
• Precepts and mentors new staff or medical assistant students as needed.
