Job summary

Carolina Dunes Behavioral Health in Leland, NC is seeking an Intake Coordinator to serve as the single entry point for admissions, handling phone triage, scheduling, and insurance verification. This on-site role requires collaboration with clinical and administrative teams to ensure a smooth admissions process.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma (Bachelor’s preferred), 1+ year in healthcare admissions, and strong communication and crisis intervention skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field preferred.
• 1+ year(s) experience in healthcare admissions required; mental health or substance use disorder setting preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, referral, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Outstanding interpersonal and interviewing and assessment skills; strong telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Conducts pre-admission screenings and schedules assessments.
• Provides additional coverage for the Call Center Team; answers phones, completes call center duties, verifies insurance, and assists with pre-certifications during high volume.
• Works with business office, nursing, and clinical staff as well as external parties to ensure timely admission of patients.
• Refers inquiries to other agencies and community resources when not appropriate for facility assistance or admission.
• Provides information and referral services for internal and external customers.
• Presents clinical information to a member of the medical staff for approval of intake.
• Offers crisis intervention services if needed.
• Verifies insurance upon intake.
• Maintains documentation involved with the admissions process.
• Maintains ongoing communications with referral sources concerning patient status and educates about available services.
• Provides clerical support to admissions (collecting admission folders, auditing charts, monitoring patients in waiting areas).
