Job summary

CARITAS is seeking a visionary Director of Behavioral Health to lead and build a trauma-informed, evidence-based system of care across our shelter and recovery programs. You will ensure access to comprehensive behavioral health services and empower staff with clinical tools and guidance.

The role requires a Virginia-licensed clinician with supervisory experience, 5–7+ years in behavioral health, and a track record in program development, data-driven quality improvement, and strong community

Qualifications

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia.
• Ability to supervise Certified Substance Abuse Counselors and Social Work Students.
• 5–7+ years of experience in behavioral health, ideally with homelessness.
• Experience in program development, supervision, and systems coordination.
• Strong knowledge of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.
• Understanding of a peer-driven recovery model.
• Experience with interdisciplinary teams and community partnerships.
• Ability to work outside standard hours or be on call.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and oversight across shelter and recovery programs.
• Develop and implement behavioral health policies, protocols, and ethical standards.
• Ensure services are trauma-informed, evidence-based, and person-centered.
• Support staff with clinical consultation and case guidance.
• Oversee budget development for Behavioral Health initiatives.
• Lead program development and integration across care continuum.
• Establish partnerships with community providers and ensure referrals.
• Guide crisis intervention, risk management, and safety protocols.
• Oversee staff training on SUD, trauma-informed care, and CBT/DBT basics.
• Track outcomes via data systems and inform program improvements.
