Description of Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor provides consultation, education, and psychosocial services to patients and family members. Assesses psycho-social needs of patients and provides consultation to medical and other personnel regarding the impact of psychosocial factors on patient illness. Discusses plans with a multidisciplinary team to meet the psycho-social needs of patients and their families. Helps enable patients to utilize medical care and access community resources. The role includes accessing medical records to perform ongoing performance improvement audits.

Qualifications
Professional/Educational
  • Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in psychology, social work, clinical/mental health counseling, or related field.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting related to Behavioral Health patients required.
  • State of IL license as a LCSW or LCPC, or related field preferred within one year of hire date.
  • DCFS Mandated Reporter Certificate of Completion required.

  • Requires good oral and written skills and knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in an organized manner; high degree of flexibility required.
  • Self-directed learner; seeks ways to improve patient care and motivate others. Possesses leadership skills and knowledge of hospital operations.
  • Effective communication with physicians, patients, families, and care providers.
  • Advanced conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directing.
Status and Compensation

Part-time, Benefit-Eligible. Average hours: 40 hours every 2 weeks. Actual pay determined by qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
