Gersh Autism’s Academy for Young Minds (AYM) in Long Island City is seeking a Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in a 12-month, full-time role. You will assist teachers with IEPs/BIPs, provide individual and small group support, and help students develop communication and self-management skills.

The position offers a structured school-based schedule, training with behavior analysts, and opportunities for advancement and RBt certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Willingness to pursue RBT certification within a set time frame.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher with IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to promote academic, social, and behavioral growth.
• Help students with communication, social interaction, and self-management skills.
• Prepare materials and assist with daily activities and transitions.
• Document data on student progress and collaborate with the team on behavior plans.
• Communicate progress and challenges with teachers and staff.
• Participate in daily training with behavioral analysts and professional development.
