Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy’s Academy for Young Minds (AYM) seeks an experienced Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in a year-round Long Island City classroom. You will work 1:1 and in small groups, assisting with IEPs/BIPs, behavior support, and daily tasks to foster academic and social growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
• Experience with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to pursue and complete RBT training within a specified time frame.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to promote academic, social and behavioral growth.
• Support daily tasks including communication, social interaction and self-management.
• Prepare students and materials for daily activities and transitions.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips and events.
• Implement strategies from BIPs to promote self-regulation and learning.
• Collect data on student performance and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with teachers and behavior specialists to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges to staff.
