Job summary

This part-time position offers a shift premium and requires availability Monday to Friday. Ideal applicants will have relevant experience and must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 60 days of hire.

Job description

The position offers a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both before school program hours and after school program hours in the same day.

We are hiring for the 2026/2027 school year in multiple off‑site locations throughout the Northview area.

Position Summary

Before and After School Program Teachers provide a reliable, safe, and fun environment for children to prepare for their school day and unwind from it. Assistant Teachers assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for programs.

The role requires Monday–Friday availability with shifts of 6:15 AM–8:30 AM and/or 3:00 PM–6:00 PM.

Essential Functions

• Assist the Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
• Prepare materials for daily activities.
• Maintain records of attendance, arrival, and departure times.
• Provide weekly lesson plans and daily activity information to parents.
• Supervise children at all times.
• Assist the Site Supervisor with parent‑teacher conferences as needed.
• Maintain the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom.
• Perform any other functions deemed necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association.

Compensation

$15.21 – $19.01 hourly; non‑exempt, part‑time (up to 25 hours/week).

Qualifications

Six months to one year of youth development related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Demonstrated interest in working with school‑age children.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration

• Blood Borne Pathogen training.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within the first 60 days.
• First Aid certification required within the first 60 days.
• AED‑Oxygen certification required within the first 60 days.
• State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
