Job summary

The Westfield Area YMCA is looking for caring, supportive and responsible individuals to join our team as Before Care and/or After Care Counselors for school age children (K-5th). Flexible schedules available, with shifts Monday through Friday from 7am-9am and/or 2:30/3:00pm-6:00pm across elementary schools in Westfield.

Counselors assist the Coordinator and Classroom/Group Supervisor in planning, development and execution of daily activities, and contribute to a positive, safe learning

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Basic experience working with children preferred.
Ability to work as a team with other YMCA staff members.

Responsibilities

Accompany children to playground or exterior areas to supervise activities such as outdoor play and fire drills.
Set up the classroom for activities in a safe manner.
Assist with transporting children by bus when needed, following bus policies.
Help plan free play and learning center activities.
Use positive reinforcement to ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants.
Be enthusiastic and encourage children’s involvement.
