Job summary

The Westfield Area YMCA is looking for caring, supportive and responsible individuals to join our team as Before Care and/or After Care Counselors for school age children (K-5th). Flexible schedules available, with shifts Monday through Friday from 7am-9am and/or 2:30/3:00pm-6:00pm across elementary schools in Westfield.

Counselors assist the Coordinator and Classroom/Group Supervisor in planning, development and execution of daily activities, and contribute to a positive, safe learning

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Basic experience working with children preferred.
• Ability to work as a team with other YMCA staff members.

Responsibilities

• Accompany children to playground or exterior areas to supervise activities such as outdoor play and fire drills.
• Set up the classroom for activities in a safe manner.
• Assist with transporting children by bus when needed, following bus policies.
• Help plan free play and learning center activities.
• Use positive reinforcement to ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants.
• Be enthusiastic and encourage children’s involvement.

We are seeking multiple candidates to work various shifts Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am - 9am and/or 2:30/3:00pm - 6:00pm. Flexible schedules available.

Counselors are expected to assist the Coordinator and Classroom/Group Supervisor in all aspects of planning, development and execution of the program daily activities.

Elementary schools through Westfield

Pay

Minors: $16.00 per hour

Adults: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour, commensurate with education and experience
