Job summary

NC State University seeks a Temporary Genetics Research Technician to support an apicultural research program in the Applied Ecology department in Raleigh, NC. The role involves laboratory and field duties, including genetic assays of honey bees and coordinating internship logistics.

The position offers a flexible schedule up to five days per week, with potential longer hours or weekend work depending on research needs. Prior bee genetics and lab experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with genetic and basic laboratory techniques.
• Prior working experience with qRT-PCR.
• Prior experience in beekeeping.
• Experience with insect dissection and nucleic acid extraction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct genetic assays of honey bees as part of the apicultural research program.
• Participate in an active laboratory operation to support ongoing projects.
• Assist with DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and genotyping.
• Coordinate field sampling of bees and logistical aspects of a summer internship program.
