Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. seeks a Bed Control Specialist to manage patient bed assignments and optimize flow within the hospital. You will coordinate admissions, discharges and transfers, ensuring bed availability aligns with clinical needs and hospital policies.

You will collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians and support staff, maintaining accurate EHR documentation and supporting infection control measures across units on a part-time night schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting required.
• 2–4 years of experience in hospital bed management, patient admissions, or related healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigns patient beds based on clinical needs, bed availability, and hospital policies.
• Coordinates patient admissions, discharges and intra-hospital transfers to optimize bed utilization.
• Monitors real-time bed availability using bed management systems and updates census/occupancy status.
• Collaborates with nursing leadership, admissions, and physicians to prioritize bed assignments during high census or emergencies.
• Communicates with departments to ensure bed preparation and readiness.
• Facilitates patient transfers to specialized care units based on clinical criteria and orders.
• Maintains accurate documentation of bed assignments and movements in the EHR.
• Supports infection control by coordinating isolation or special room needs.
