Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, as part of Stanford University, seeks a Science and Engineering Associate to support X-ray spectroscopy beam lines and associated instrumentation. You will help install, test, and troubleshoot end stations, assist users and staff, and participate in developing and commissioning scientific equipment.

The role requires an associate degree or equivalent, with experience in mechanical/electrical systems, documentation, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate or 3 years of equivalent work experience.
• Experience applying scientific and engineering principles to provide technical services.
• Ability to write clear documentation and maintain protocols.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, testing, operation, and troubleshooting of X-ray spectroscopy end stations.
• Provide user and staff technical support on beam lines.
• Participate in design, prototyping, procurement and commissioning of equipment.
• Modify, repair, and troubleshoot complex equipment.
• Prepare drawings, material lists, requisitions, and change requests with supervision.
• Plan and oversee equipment operation schedules and routine maintenance.
• Acquire and maintain tools, equipment, and chemicals for projects.
• Maintain instrumentation-related documentation and protocols.
• Liaise with researchers, staff, vendors, and other university personnel.
