Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles seeks a Peer Support Specialist II, Battle Buddy, to advocate for veterans and guide peers toward independence and recovery. You will provide outreach, mentoring and coaching, linking veterans and MilFam to community resources and supports.

As part of the treatment team, you will work closely with the VPAN Squad Leader and clinical staff to create recovery plans and help participants navigate benefits, housing, and services.

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance background check including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
• Must meet Funder Approval.
• Current TB screening and Immunization Records within 5 days of hire.
• Copy of Current Professional License if applicable.
• Current BLS Certification within 15 days of hire.
• Completion of all required trainings within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult clients.

Responsibilities

• Share personal experiences, skills, strengths, and ongoing support and resource referral in recovery.
• Accompany participants to appointments and meetings, housing searches, voucher applications, sessions and other veteran-centered activities.
• Assist participants in developing recovery plans with VPAN Squad Leader for self-directed recovery.
• Assist participants with setting up and sustaining self-help mutual support groups and locating existing groups.
• Act as reference source for client to legal, community, social service and administrative bodies; facilitate support groups and client participation.
• Help identify and eliminate barriers and maintain employment or housing or sobriety with VPAN Squad Leader.
• Integrate with county's Coordinated Entry System for housing (CES) and VA/SPA-based systems.
• Other duties as required.
