Job summary

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Batch Annealing Furnace Operator to safely operate the full annealing cycle in a 100% hydrogen atmosphere. Responsibilities include furnace loading, cycle tracking, temperature profiling, coil handling, data logging, and coordinating with maintenance to sustain equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision measuring tools.
• 2 years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience.
• Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout procedures and safe work practices.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, production schedules, and work instructions.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to interface with furnace control systems or PLC-based automation.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and monitor the full annealing cycle using hydrogen atmosphere equipment.
• Perform furnace loading, cycle tracking, and final coil handling; ensure seal integrity and manage temperature profiles.

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a leader for the position of Batch Annealing Furnace Operator. This role is responsible for safely operating and monitoring the full annealing cycle using 100% hydrogen atmosphere equipment, including furnace loading, cycle tracking, and final coil handling. The operator will ensure seal integrity, manage temperature profiles, support mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and maintain equipment reliability through coordination with maintenance teams. Attention to process controls, data logging, and cycle efficiency is critical to ensuring product quality, uptime, and teammate safety. This role requires flexibility to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, holidays night shifts, weekends, and travel as needed for training or company events.

Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor's new sheet mill with advanced steelmaking capabilities.. The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills.This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision measuring tools
• 2 years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, including familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and standard safe work practices in an industrial environment.
• The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, production schedules, and work instructions
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to interface with furnace control systems or PLC-based automation platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two or more years of experience operating thermal processing or heat treatment equipment
• Experience monitoring batch cycles, including temperature profiling and soak times
• Familiarity with hydrogen atmosphere systems or other controlled-environment furnaces
• Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues related to furnace operation or coil handling
• Previous experience in steel, metals processing, or other heavy industrial operations
