Job summary

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Hot Mill Metallurgist to join our Apple Grove facility. This role will develop and implement practices to improve safety, product quality, and operational efficiency while supporting customer requirements and the ongoing development of hot rolled products.

You will work with customers, production teams, and technical staff to drive process improvements, lead corrective actions, and help ensure products meet specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related engineering discipline.
• 1–3 years of flat rolled sheet experience.
• Knowledge of hot rolling processes and steel product development.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, process metallurgy, or quality systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Promote and support Nucor's safety culture.
• Review inquiries and specs to determine mill capability and feasibility.
• Lead and support corrective action investigations and resolutions.
• Drive development, qualification, and continuous improvement of hot rolled products.
• Ensure products meet customer requirements and quality standards.
• Analyze production and quality data to identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Support metallurgical troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts throughout the manufacturing process.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

This role is responsible for developing and implementing practices that improve safety, product quality, operational efficiency, and cost performance. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, production teams, and technical personnel to ensure customer requirements are met while supporting the continued development of hot rolled products.

Nucor Steel West Virginia's is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
• One (1) to three (3) years of flat rolled sheet experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of hot rolling processes and steel product development.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, process metallurgy, or quality systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
