Job summary

Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara, part of Foley Entertainment Group, seeks a friendly host/hostess to greet guests and manage reservations with a focus on exceptional service. You will assist with counter service, make local recommendations, and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

The role requires multitasking, strong communication, and a willingness to support food and beverage operations, including currency handling and POS usage.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Prior host/barista experience preferred.
• Able to multitask.
• Must stand and walk for extended periods.
• Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
• High school graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests when entering the restaurant with superior customer service.
• Answer phone and record reservations for large parties.
• Able to make recommendations for guests to other local restaurants and activities.
• Thank every guest upon departure, invite them to return, and wish them a fond farewell.
• Ensure each guest is greeted and that all food and beverage operations are running smoothly.
• Oversee all aspects of restaurant during absence of Manager and/or Supervisor.
• Take customer orders at the counter; receive payments and present change.
• Function as the host/hostess of the cafe; manage the register and balance at end of shift.
• Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor; promote hotel amenities and services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet guests when entering the restaurant with superior customer service.
• Answer phone and record reservations for large parties.
• Able to make recommendations for guests to other local restaurants and activities.

• Ensure each guest is greeted and that all food and beverage operations are running smoothly.
• Clean and clear service areas.
• Oversee all aspects of restaurant during absence of Manager and/or Supervisor.
• Be familiar with operation of P.O.S. system and manual system procedures.
• Ensure work area is clean and clear of standing water, debris or any objects that can obstruct the job duties from being performed safely, efficiently and effectively.
• Take customer orders at the counter
• Receive payments and present change to customers
• Pack food items, make coffee, and fill beverage cups
• Function as the host/hostess of the cafe
• Manage the register, including all credit card and cash operations
• Ensure a balance of the register at the end of the shift or working period
• Keep area clean according to health regulations.
• Attend team briefings when relevant.
• Maintain a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor always.
• Ensure guest satisfaction by responding to guest inquiries with accurate information and a positive attitude.
• Promote hotel amenities and services to guests using personal knowledge and effective selling techniques.
• Welcome and effectively resolve guest questions, issues and complaints with supervisor assistance as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 10lbs without assistance.
• Must be able to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, and weekends.
• Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous experience in similar position in hospitality industry.
• Knowledge of local activities and attractions appropriate for restaurant clientele.
• Knowledge of Restaurant operations, its services, and facilities.
• Must possess basic computational ability.
• Must possess basic computer skills.
