JOB SUMMARY

The Barista prepares and serves coffee, tea, and other beverages and food items in a welcoming, efficient manner. This role serves guests and other customers at the property’s designated food and beverage outlet, takes and fulfills orders, and answers questions about menu offerings. The Barista maintains product quality, cleanliness, and safe food handling practices while operating point-of-sale equipment and handling payments accurately. Through attentive service and consistent execution, the role supports guest satisfaction and the outlet’s operating results.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience as a barista or in a similar role within a resort, hotel, or coffee shop environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with guests and coworkers and perform basic arithmetic for orders and payments.
  • Ability to complete any food handler or other certification required by the applicable jurisdiction within the required timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a coffee shop, café, restaurant, or other guest service setting.
  • Experience preparing espresso beverages and using commercial coffee equipment.
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
  • Bilingual ability appropriate to the property’s guests.

FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Greet guests promptly, explain menu offerings, and answer questions about ingredients, preparation, and available options.
  • Take orders accurately, confirm modifications, and communicate relevant requests to teammates.
  • Prepare and serve espresso beverages, brewed coffee, tea, and other menu items according to recipes and presentation standards.
  • Prepare and serve food items within the scope of the outlet’s menu and food safety procedures.
  • Operate coffee equipment and other tools safely; clean, calibrate, and report equipment issues as directed.
  • Follow applicable food safety, sanitation, allergen, and alcohol service requirements for items offered by the outlet.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized service counter, dining area, and preparation and storage spaces.
  • Handle cash and electronic payments, operate the point-of-sale system, and complete transactions accurately.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and availability; rotate stock and report shortages or waste.
  • Open and close the outlet or assigned station, including setup, restocking, cleaning, and securing supplies.
  • Coordinate with kitchen and food and beverage colleagues to fulfill orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Respond to guest concerns promptly and seek assistance when needed to resolve them.
  • Follow responsible handling procedures for guest information and payment data.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stand and walk for most of a scheduled shift.
  • Repeatedly use hands and arms to operate beverage equipment, handle cups and utensils, and perform point-of-sale tasks.
  • Bend, reach, and occasionally climb a step stool to retrieve supplies.
  • Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds independently, and seek assistance or use equipment for heavier items.
  • Work near hot liquids, steam, and commercial food and beverage equipment.
