Job summary

The Canteen, located inside The WildBirch Hotel in Alaska, is seeking an experienced barista to join our team. You will prepare coffee, tea, and specialty beverages while delivering exceptional service in a fast-paced hotel setting.

Responsibilities include taking orders, operating espresso equipment, handling transactions, and maintaining a clean workstation. Prior barista experience is preferred; flexibility for early mornings, weekends, and evenings is appreciated.

Qualifications

• Previous food service/barista experience preferred.
• Must be able to stand for long hours and lift 25–30 lbs.
• Basic math for handling transactions.
• Strong communication and multitasking skills.
• Food handler’s certification if required by local laws.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso drinks, drip coffee, tea, and other beverages per recipe standards.

• Operate and maintain espresso machines and grinders.
• Handle cash/card transactions and process payments.
• Maintain cleanliness of workstation, dining area, and equipment.

The Canteen, located inside The WildBirch Hotel, brings Alaska adventure to early morning adventures and afternoon pick-me-ups. We are looking for experienced baristas to join our team providing service for all our guests.

Position: Barista

Reports to: Store Manager

Summary

Prepares and serves coffee, tea, and specialty beverages while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment within the hotel

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare beverages (espresso drinks, drip coffee, tea, blended drinks) according to recipe standards
• Take customer orders accurately via register or POS system
• Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other equipment
• Handle cash and card transactions, process payments correctly
• Maintain cleanliness of workstation, dining area, and equipment
• Restock supplies (cups, lids, syrups, milk, beans) as needed
• Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
• Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service; answer menu questions
• Handle customer complaints or escalation to supervisor when needed

Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25-30 lbs
• Availability for early mornings, weekends, and/or evenings
• Strong communication and multitasking skills
• Basic math skills for handling transactions
• Prior food service/barista experience preferred, not always required
• Food handler’s certification (if required by local law)

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of coffee brewing methods and beverage recipes
• Ability to work in a team environment
