Job summary

The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC seeks a banquet server to deliver exceptional guest service and detailed knowledge of food & beverage items. You will assist in setting up buffets, linens, and china, and coordinate with the kitchen to ensure accurate orders and timely service.

Candidates should have 1-2 years in banquet or restaurant service, the ability to work nights and weekends, and the stamina to stand for long periods while maintaining a polished appearance.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years banquet or restaurant server experience in upscale settings.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to stand/walk 8 hours.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Serve guests and explain menu selections with knowledge of origin and preparation.
• Assist in set-up and break-down of buffets, linens, china, and glassware.
• Relay guest orders accurately to the kitchen and ensure timely delivery.
• Transport items to tables and maintain service quality.
• Maintain back-of-house cleanliness and safety standards.

The banquet server will serve the guests needs by providing exceptional knowledge of food & beverage menu items, as well as, information regarding preparation methods. They also assist in set-up of linen, china, glass, silver, and buffets/ food displays for each function in accordance with The Umstead Hotel standards.*pay range includes tips*Pay starts at $7.50/hour plus a percentage of the banquet service chargeThe basic functions of this position are:Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and in a clean uniform.Participates in the service and removal of food during banquetfunctions by offering pre-determined menu selections to each table; maintainingknowledge of each selection's, origin, taste, and preparation method;communicating guest orders including any special needs or requests to thekitchen; checking completed kitchen orders with the guest's original order;transporting items to the guest table in a timely manner to ensure proper foodquality and making self available to guests, clients, and group contacts toensure satisfaction.Setting up, maintaining, inventorying and breaking down all beverage breaks and food buffets/ food displaysSetting up of linen, china, glass, silver, for each function according to the banquet event order.Anticipate guest needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests.Being able to consistently perform tasks within a given time frame to insure all event components are setup on time.Being able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.Maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safetyComply with The Umstead Hotel & Spa Vision and Values.Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your Manager.High School education or equivalent required1-2 years banquet or restaurant server experience in an upscale hotel, restaurant, or country club.
