Job summary

The University of Georgia in Athens, GA seeks a Temporary Banquet Captain to support large events at the Georgia Center. You will help set up, run, and break down events, guiding student and temporary staff to ensure smooth service and room readiness.

You’ll work with banquet management to read BEOs, maintain equipment, and uphold standards for cleanliness and presentation. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of event setup equipment and methods.
• Ability to set up workstations with needed supplies.
• Maintain a safe, sanitary work environment.
• Assist with dining room setup according to production schedules.
• Exercise good decision‑making and adapt to management or client direction.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and staff.
• Stand for long hours in hot or cold environments.

Responsibilities

• Participate in setting up events including moving tables, setting tables and chairs, staging equipment for speakers, bar set‑up, and buffet setup.
• Follow standards for cleanliness, food presentation, and quality that exceed customer expectations.
• Complete all necessary work for future banquet events as directed.
• Ensure meeting and event rooms are prepared at least 2 hours prior to contracted time.
• Read and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and planning sheets.
• Clean up after the event and handle cash/credit cards when required.
