Job summary

Gusto seeks a leader for Banking design to unite Wallet and SMB Banking under a cohesive design strategy. You will guide a growing team, shape rituals, and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, and Legal to deliver connected experiences across pay, banking, and financial workflows.

You will balance hands‑on design work with people leadership as Banking scales, ensuring high‑quality, compliant experiences for small businesses and their employees.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of product design experience with 4+ years of people management, ideally leading senior designers.
• Portfolio showing high‑quality work in consumer or business financial products (fintech/banking preferred).
• Experience incorporating AI tools and practices into design teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage an initial team of 3 designers and hire to build the team.
• Build rituals, hiring pipeline, and planning cadence across Consumer and Business Banking for the first time.
• Coach designers across products at different maturity stages (Wallet and SMB Banking).
• Co-create goals and success metrics with product/engineering, translating strategy into scopes and milestones.
• Raise the bar on Wallet quality and define new standards for Business Banking.
• Stay hands-on on high-stakes decisions, especially SMB Banking path to beta, while guiding teams to independence.
