Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a friendly Bakery Clerk to join our in-store bakery team. You’ll greet customers, help them select products, and keep the bakery stocked and clean throughout shifts.

You’ll provide excellent service, assist with orders, monitor freshness, and maintain sanitation standards in a fast-paced bakery environment. Training is provided, and you’ll be part of a collaborative store team.

Qualifications

• Follows written and verbal instructions with confidence.
• Uses basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
• Communicates clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way.
• Stays organized and keeps up with the pace of a busy bakery environment.
• HS diploma not required; up to six months of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter.
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift.
• Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking.
• Follow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all times.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable.
• Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department.
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer.
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
• You’ll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department Manager
