Job summary

Kroger Family of Companies in West Virginia seeks a Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) to fulfill customer orders, prepare bakery items, and promote products while maintaining a clean, safe environment. This role supports the department manager in achieving sales goals and ensuring quality and freshness of items for customers.

Ideal candidates have strong customer service, basic math, and can obtain a food handler permit. Bakery, deli or retail experience is helpful and welcome.

Responsibilities

• Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
• Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
• Recommend deli or bakery items to meet customer needs.
• Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers and ovens per guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
• Measure, prepare and mix ingredients using various utensils and equipment.
• Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients.
• Check product quality and review sell-by dates; take action as needed.
• Properly use kitchen equipment including stove, scale, fryer, steamer, etc.
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand store layout and assist customers in locating products.
• Stay current with ads and promotions.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to questions with suggestions.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
