DELI COMBO CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To maximize sales and profit in the Bakery and Deli Department through courteous customer service while maintaining departmental standards.

SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products.
2. Bake bakery items such as breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
3. Wrap, package, and sell bakery and deli products.
4. Accurately record customer orders for cakes and bakery items.
5. Process purchases quickly using electronic cash registers and scanners.
6. Review the communication board daily for updates and follow posted guidelines.
7. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer areas, verify deliveries, inspect for damage, and code date products.
8. Adhere to health codes and clean the department regularly.
9. Transport cases to appropriate areas, open cases, and ensure proper product placement and rotation.
10. Ensure safety by following store safety rules and reporting hazards.
11. Operate equipment safely, including slicers, balers, and fryers (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
12. Evaluate product quality, handle damaged or unsalable items, and reprocess or markdown as needed.
13. Monitor temperatures and record case conditions.
14. Replenish inventory across the department.
15. Perform additional tasks as assigned to support store operations.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Bakery Deli Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

• Basic math skills and ability to count.
• Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions.
• Stable work and educational history.
• Ability to read and write English, including labels, instructions, and reports.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in similar roles.
• Experience operating equipment like slicers, scales, and cash registers (must be 18+ for certain equipment).

TASKS OF THE JOB: Includes mobility, lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, handling signs and products, and working in various environments, including cold and hot areas. Must be able to climb ladders and work on different surfaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Inside with temperature variations, dust, and humidity.
