DELI COMBO CLERK
PURPOSE STATEMENT
To maximize sales and profit in the Bakery and Deli Department through courteous customer service while maintaining optimum department conditions.
Significant Job Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming environment by answering all questions regarding products sold in the department and throughout the store.
- Bake products including breads, rolls, buns, cakes, pies, pastries, and brownies.
- Wrap, package, and sell bakery and deli products.
- Record customer orders/requests for cakes and bakery items accurately.
- Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using an electronic cash register, scanner, and scale.
- Review the Communication Board daily for updates and follow posted guidelines for sampling and announcements.
- Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area, verify deliveries, inspect for shortages/damage, sort cases, and code date all items.
- Adhere to all health codes and regulations, and maintain cleanliness of the department and equipment.
- Transport cases to appropriate areas, open cases, check products, and rotate stock.
- Ensure safety by following store safety rules, removing broken containers, and reporting hazards.
- Operate equipment such as balers, slicers, scales, ovens, and others, following safety requirements (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
- Evaluate product quality, handle damaged or unsalable items, and adjust pricing accordingly.
- Monitor and record temperature checks, out-of-stock conditions, and replenish stock as needed.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned to ensure product and service quality.
Supervision
Reports directly to the Bakery Deli Manager.
Qualifications
Required:
- Basic math skills and ability to count.
- Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions.
- Stable work and educational history.
- Ability to read and write English, including instructions, labels, and reports.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in related jobs.
- Experience operating equipment such as balers, slicers, scales, and kitchen appliances (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
Tasks and Physical Requirements
- Mobility to move product, build displays, and perform stocking duties within approximately 100 yards.
- Work on tile or concrete surfaces up to 8 hours.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. from 6 inches to overhead.
- Reach, grasp, twist, and handle various products and equipment.
- Climb ladders and shelving up to 3 feet high.
- Respond to customer and co-worker questions, and operate store systems and equipment.
Work Environment
Inside environment with temperature variations, dust, and humidity from backdoor, compressors, coolers, and preparation areas.
