Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or inquire about products.
- Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes to prevent shrinkage.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to meet their needs.
- Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes using appropriate utensils and equipment.
- Properly prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
- Check product quality for freshness and review "sell by" dates, taking appropriate actions.
- Operate kitchen equipment including stoves, scales, fryers, steamers, and food processors.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report discrepancies in product ordering/shipping to the department manager.
- Understand the store layout and locate products as requested by customers.
- Stay updated on current, upcoming, seasonal, and promotional ads.
- Maintain knowledge of products and respond to customer questions and suggestions.
- Monitor inventory and stocking conditions, noting discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers, maintaining temperature logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Create a welcoming environment, making customers feel valued and appreciated.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify management.
- Inspect equipment regularly and report repairs needed.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflicts in a reasonable, non-confrontational manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve issues.
- Support interactions with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Customer Service skills
- Effective communication skills
- Basic math knowledge
- Ability to obtain a food handler’s permit upon employment
Desired Previous Job Experience:
- Customer Service skills
- Bakery or Deli experience is helpful
