Job summary

PAQ, Inc. is seeking a Bakery Combo Clerk to support the Bakery Lead in achieving sales and profit goals while delivering a positive shopping experience. You will assist with baking duties and stock bakery items, engaging with customers and ensuring product quality.

This on-site role requires strong communication, math proficiency, and adherence to safety and health regulations; weekend/evening hours may be required in a fast-paced retail bakery environment.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: No prior experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.
Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

Provide friendly and helpful customer service, including handling difficult situations and resolving customer concerns, with supervisor assistance as needed.
Follow approved procedures for receiving, pricing, and stocking products to ensure accuracy, quality, and proper rotation.
Prepare, package, and stock bakery items as assigned.
Transport products to preparation or storage areas, including refrigerated storage boxes.
Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover, minimizing out-of-stock or overstocked items.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy to control the level of damaged goods.
Maintain a clean, attractive, and friendly department to ensure a positive image for customers.
Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Adhere to all state, county, and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
Report malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers.
Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities to ensure a safe store environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Bakery Combo Clerk supports the Bakery Lead in meeting the department's sales and profit goals and contributes to a positive customer shopping experience by upholding quality standards. Bakery Combo Clerks are vital to store operations, often serving as the point of contact for customers. Additionally, They assist with baking duties and responsibilities in the department as needed.

Essential Functions of the Position

Knowledge

Proficiency in basic math and cash handling procedures.
Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement.
Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to ensure food safety.
Familiarity with different types of bakery products, ingredients, and recipes.

Skills

Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
Ability to operate POS systems and other cashier equipment.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in transactions and handling of cash.
Basic computer skills for operating the POS system.

Abilities

Ability to adapt to changing situations, manage multiple demands, and work effectively with diverse personalities.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as baking, customer service, and cleaning.
Aptitude for making informed decisions quickly, often in high-pressure environments.

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, and squatting to handle products, access ingredients, and retrieve baked goods from shelves.
Exhibit manual dexterity for handling money and operating POS systems, including 10-key adding machines and self-checkout (SCO) systems.
Working in a hot environment due to ovens and other baking equipment.
Ability to tolerate variations in temperature and handle hot items safely.
Good vision to ensure the quality and appearance of baked goods, read labels and recipes, and operate machinery safely.
Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
Utilize cash handling tools, including counterfeit bill detection pens and equipment.
Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.

Work Conditions: Work Hours: Vary, with availability required on weekends, evenings, and holidays; typically, 8-hour shifts for full-time employees. Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation. Exposure to hot temperatures from ovens and warmers and cooler temperatures in refrigerated areas and freezers. Food Handling: Regular handling of various food products, including flour, sugar, and other baking ingredients, which may involve exposure to allergens. Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management, including a name tag, company-issued shirts, hats, jackets, or personal shirts that are black, burgundy, or blue, in good repair, and not faded. Use approved hats or hair nets. Wear safety toes and non-slip shoes. Exposure: May be exposed to hot equipment and cleaning chemicals. Noise Level: Working in an environment with moderate to high noise levels from mixers, ovens, and other bakery equipment. Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast-paced retail environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: No prior experience is required; on-the-job training is provided. Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
