Job Title: Bakery Combo Clerk

Location: PAQ, Inc, Store Location

Reports To: Lead, Bakery

Job Summary

The Bakery Combo Clerk supports the Bakery Lead in meeting the department's sales and profit goals and contributes to a positive customer shopping experience by upholding quality standards. The role often serves as the point of contact for customers and assists with baking duties as needed.

Essential Functions of the Position
  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service, handling difficult situations and resolving concerns with supervisor assistance as needed.
  • Follow approved procedures for receiving, pricing, and stocking products to ensure accuracy, quality, and proper rotation.
  • Prepare, package, and stock bakery items as assigned; transport products to preparation or storage areas, including refrigerated boxes.
  • Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover, minimizing out-of‑stock or overstocked items.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy to control the level of damaged goods.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive and friendly department to ensure a positive image for customers.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures; follow local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Adhere to all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Report malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately.
  • Maintain up-to‑date knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers.
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities to ensure a safe store environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
  • Proficiency in basic math and cash handling procedures.
  • Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance engagement.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, storage and sanitation procedures to ensure food safety.
  • Familiarity with different types of bakery products, ingredients and recipes.
Skills
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Ability to operate POS systems and other cashier equipment.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in transactions and handling of cash.
  • Basic computer skills for operating the POS system.
Abilities
  • Adapt to changing situations, manage multiple demands and work effectively with diverse personalities.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as baking, customer service and cleaning.
  • Makes informed decisions quickly in high‑pressure environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8‑hour shifts.
  • Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping and squatting to handle products, access ingredients and retrieve baked goods from shelves.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity for handling money and operating POS systems.
  • Work in a hot environment due to ovens and other baking equipment; tolerate variations in temperature and handle hot items safely.
  • Good vision to ensure quality and appearance of baked goods, read labels and recipes and operate machinery safely.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
  • Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
  • Use cash handling tools, including counterfeit bill detection pens and equipment.
  • Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Work Conditions
  • Work Hours: Vary, with availability required on weekends, evenings and holidays; typically 8‑hour shifts for full‑time employees.
  • Environment: Indoor, climate‑controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Exposure to hot temperatures from ovens and warmers and cooler temperatures in refrigerated areas and freezers.
  • Regular handling of various food products, including flour, sugar and other baking ingredients, potentially exposing to allergens.
  • Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management; wear safety toes and non‑slip shoes.
  • Noise Level: Moderate to high from mixers, ovens and other bakery equipment.
  • Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast‑paced retail environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: No prior experience required; on‑the‑job training provided. Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
