Job Title: Bakery Clerk

Department: Bakery

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products promptly, efficiently, and friendly manner. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home, Bakery Department Manager. No positions report to you.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greet customers with a smile, learn their names, and assist them by guiding to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
  • Review food for freshness and order status.
  • Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
  • Work as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep work area clean.
  • Maintain adequate food supply, develop or follow production lists, and anticipate department needs.
  • Prepare, finish, and replenish products; pull from coolers/freezers for baking.
  • Check in products, review invoices, and handle department register operations.
  • Remove trash timely, adhere to hygiene and dress guidelines, and report to work on schedule.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes, order supplies, price products, deliver orders, assist in other store areas, and perform related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills such as addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal/demonstrated instructions, write identifying info, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education And Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with six months or less related work experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual acuity at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a store environment with potential exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shock, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used

Mixers, ovens, wrapping machines, label printers, cash registers, dishwashers, bread slicers, electric knives, microwaves, airbrushes, and copying equipment.

Contacts

Daily contact with the public, customers, and regulatory agencies.

Starting hourly wage ranges from $11.50 to $14.40 depending on experience.
