Overview

Job Summary

Scales, mixes, and bakes various bakery goods. Maintains proper inventory levels of products and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the bakery department meet standards. Consistently provides friendly, courteous service to internal and external customers. Performs other related work.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcomes, engages, and thanks customers, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic service environment.
  • Produces bakery products for retail stores.
  • Operates and cleans equipment and work area, maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary bakery environment.
  • Packages all fresh products following all packaging and handling procedures.
  • Ensures product quality by following established codes.
  • Mixes icing or toppings by scaling and measuring ingredients, operating mixers, and reading recipes, occasionally lifting 50 lbs. bags of ingredients.
  • Dumps icing or toppings into storage containers.
  • Sets up cakes by removing liners, applying icing between layers, and decorating as needed for multiple cakes.
  • Ices cakes, borders, and decorates with specific designs, handling multiple items simultaneously.
  • Packages cakes into boxes.
  • Labels bakery items using scanning and labeling equipment.
  • Displays products appealingly on shelves, following FIFO for stock rotation.
  • Handles customer orders by phone and in person, including special orders with decorating techniques.
  • Personalizes cakes with customer messages.
  • Faces merchandise and maintains attractive displays.
  • Provides fast, friendly customer service, engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of product displays and storage areas.
  • Assists customers with inquiries regarding products, pricing, and availability.
  • Ensures quality and legal compliance of bakery goods through proper labeling and handling.
  • Monitors stock levels, filling out inventory sheets accurately.
  • Produces breads and rolls by following recipes, operating ovens, proofers, and handling ingredients.
  • Performs cleaning duties using pressure hoses, brushes, and wiping tools.
  • Produces croissants by hand, proofing, and baking.
  • Opens and closes the bakery per company procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Ability to:

  • Provide courteous service consistently.
  • Work varied hours, primarily between 3:00 am and 10:00 pm, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Pushing and pulling up to 100 lbs. of product on racks.
  • Lift objects up to 50 lbs. to chest height.
  • Conduct visual inspections, read recipes, log production data.
  • Operate kitchen utensils and equipment with manual dexterity.
  • Maintain composure with customers and co-workers.
  • Reach overhead, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Handle ingredients and perform basic math calculations.
  • Follow safety and sanitation procedures, including use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Check labels and packaging for compliance.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Operate kitchen equipment accurately and quickly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and regulations.
  • Be at least 18 years old.

Additional Requirements:

  • Food Handlers Certification (per state laws).

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Ovens, proof box, mixers, bread sheeter, flour dump bins, floor scrubber, dishwasher, rack washer, pallet jack, microwave, dividers, donut filler, airbrush, date gun, scan gun, DIGI printer, label machine, inkjet printer.
