Job summary

The St Charles Park District is seeking an entry-level, seasonal program staff member to deliver high-quality recreation services for residents and visitors while adhering to safety and administrative policies.

You must be at least 16 years old and ready to lead school-age activities, assess situations, communicate effectively, and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and mandated reporter certifications within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Ability to assess situations and offer positive feedback.
  • Experience and desire to work with school age children.
  • Knowledge of positive leadership techniques, children’s activities and games, developmental learning progressions, and appropriate discipline techniques.
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and mandated Reporter certification or obtain certifications within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all departmental safety rules and support safety and risk management programs.
  • Work cooperatively with residents, colleagues, the public, and other agencies as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to district goals.
  • Comply with park district policies and procedures.
  • Work with school staff, public, instructors, and participants as a Park District employee.
  • Follow-up on absentees with the Supervisor and parents as needed.
  • Effectively communicate.
  • Lead activities at Baker Station.
  • Resolve problems with participants and notify parents.
  • Communicate information to and from the supervisor.
  • Assess participant needs and modify the program accordingly.
  • Identify unsafe situations and provide a safe environment for participants.
  • Perform First Aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Assist with emergency procedures.

Job Summary – About the Role

Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Work cooperatively with the office staff of the individual schools, the general public, the on-site instructors, Fox Valley Special Recreation Association staff, and the participants as a Park District employee.
  • Follow-up on absentees by checking with the Supervisor and follow up with parents as needed.
  • Effectively communicate.
  • Lead activities occurring at Baker Station.
  • Resolve problems with participants and notify their parents.
  • Effectively communicate information both to and from the supervisor.
  • Assess needs of participants, recommend and implement modification to the existing program.
  • Identify unsafe or unacceptable situations and provide safe environment for participants.
  • Perform First Aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Assist with emergency procedures that pertain to duties involved.
