Job summary

Barrington Park District is seeking a part-time, non-exempt Support Staff/One-On-One to assist in supervised inclusion of children in programs. The role runs in the afternoon and hours vary based on program needs, with shifts such as 2:15–6:00 PM on most days.

Under the Site Supervisor, you will help provide a safe, engaging environment, follow directions, attend meetings, and support children’s social and emotional development while maintaining strong communication with staff and parents.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED Certification is required.
  • Red Cross EPI PEN Training offered (will train).
  • DCFS Mandated Reporter Training offered (will train).
  • Thorough knowledge of the specific activity is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Takes directions from Site Supervisor, Site Coordinator, and Assistant Site Coordinator.
  • Attends all staff and program meetings.
  • Arrives on time and prepared for daily activities.
  • Reports absences in a timely manner.
  • Encourages positive behavior and supports children’s cooperation.
  • Promotes safe, non-threatening environments for skill development.
  • Supports socialization and peer interaction in group activities.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties related to program operations.

M,T,TH,F 2:15 – 6PM, W 1:45 – 6PM

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervisor of the Site Supervisor, the staff support / one-on-one is responsible for the supervised inclusion, of said child, into the Program, creating, organizing and displaying personal leadership in a wide variety of recreational activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Takes directions from the Site Supervisor, Site Coordinator, and Assistant Site Coordinator
  • Attends all staff and program meetings
  • Arrives on time and is prepared for the days activities
  • Reports absences in a timely manner
  • Shows interest in the days activities and encourages the same for said child
  • Is sensitive to the individual needs of said child
  • Will encourage positive behavior through positive reinforcement strategies and assisting with impulse control, this will be accomplished by the staff member being in close proximity and attentive of said child at all times
  • To increase skills of self-expression
  • To encourage socialization and interaction through participation in structured and spontaneous group activities
  • To provide a safe non-threatening environment in which skill development can be achieved.
  • To encourage social independence and self-reliance
  • To increase awareness of and encourage the development of new leisure activities.
  • To provide opportunities to increase self-confidence and self-esteem
  • To provide opportunities to develop peer relationships
  • Helps with housekeeping duties related to program operation as assigned
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
  • Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
  • Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
  • Attend professional educational and safety trainings
  • Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
  • Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
  • Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
  • Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to supervisor
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regularly required to talk, hear or read
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; and over 30 pounds with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

  • Employee should be able to maintain a positive working relationship with other employees
  • Possess the ability to work well with the general public, parents, peers and park district employees
  • Employee must work effectively under deadlines in a variety of environments and elements

  • Employee performs some activities indoors. Indoor environmental conditions will include lighting and temperature
  • Employee may perform most activities outside in various weather conditions

  • Must be able to respond to and handle children's behaviors in a positive appropriate manner
  • Employee must have the ability to follow directions
  • Employee must have good verbal and written communications skills
  • Employee must possess time management and organization skills to effectively perform the job

  • Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position
