Job summary

Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery in Greenville, SC seeks an energetic Baker to produce artisan pastries, breads and laminated doughs daily. You will follow recipes, manage doughs, and maintain quality from oven to display.

You will work with a friendly team, handle a fast-paced environment, and contribute to a local, community-focused food experience. Weekend availability is required and full-time consideration may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in baking or mass production is a plus.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
• Comfortable working in hot or cold environments.
• Passion for local food and storytelling behind it.
• Professional and respectful conduct at all times.
• Enjoy interacting with people and delivering good service.
• Able to take direction, work independently or in a team, and build working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Produce Swamp baked goods daily, including breads, pastries, and laminated croissants, using established recipes.
• Scoop, portion, and roll baked goods for extended periods.
• Follow daily checklists to prepare and bake diverse recipes.
• Mix, roll, proof, and sheet dough with standard equipment.
• Adhere to time/temperature guidelines for consistent quality.
• Sort and pack baked goods for store, catering, market, and wholesale orders.
• Prep and chop fruits/vegetables for recipes.

The Baker’s role is to produce freshly made, artisan pastries, breads and other baked items, such as laminated croissants, pies and desserts, daily using the best possible ingredients for customers to enjoy the best possible eating experience.

Requirements

What you can expect

• Produces Swamp baked goods including: baking, mixing, scaling, portioning recipes and following proper weight standards
• Can scoop, portion, and roll assorted baked goods for prolonged periods of time
• Follows daily checklists to prepare and bake a variety of unique recipes
• Mixes, rolls, proofs, and sheets dough using industry standard equipment
• Follows proper time and temperature guidelines to ensure a quality bake each time
• Sorts, assembles, and packs baked goods for store sales, caterings, market and wholesale orders
• Preps and chops fruits and vegetables for various recipes

Specific Requirements?

Age/Availability

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be available for weekend and between the hours of 4am-4pm

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous baking and/or mass production a plus
• Must be comfortable with repetitive motions
• Must be able to work in an often hot or cold environment
• Must possess a passion for local food and an interest in telling the story behind it.
• Must conduct oneself in an honest, professional and respectful manner at all times.
• Must possess a love of people, interact with people well, and possess a desire for excellent customer service.
• Able to take direction, work independently, and as a member of a team, and able to create working relationships.
• Must be highly motivated, hard working, and possess a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
• Must pay attention to details, be organized, and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
